Asirwad Swain (Nayagarh) and Smaraki Mohanty (Kendrapara) emerged champions in the open and girls categories respectively of the Odisha State Sub-junior (U-15) Chess Championship, which concluded here at Srusti Management of Academy, Patia today.
In the seven-round competition, featuring a total of 86 boys and 36 girls, Aswirwad secured six points and Smaraki 6.5 points. The title winners received a cash prize of Rs 1,500 each. Top four finishers in open category and top five in girls` section qualified to represent the state in the Sub-junior National Championship to be held in West Bengal from August 4 to 12.

Boys: 1-3: Asirwad Swain, Sidhant Mohapatra, Rakesh Kumar Jena (6 each); 4-6: Susobhit Das, Nishit Mohanty, Sankalp Baliarsingh (each 5.5); 7-10: Pranab Kumar Patra, Srinibas Mishra, Rabin Mohapatra, Diptanshu Ranjan Swain (5 each).
Girls: 1. Smaraki Mohanty (6.5), 2. Sunyasakta Satpathy (6), 3. Akankhya Kabi (5.5); 4-7: Sovna Sonali Jena, Sweta Senapati, Rutumbara Bidhar, Soumyashree (5 each); 8. Anisha Mishra (4.5); 9-10: Nikita Mallick, Tanuja Sahu (4 each).
